A 28-year-old woman was found dead inside a residential complex in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony just 72 days after her marriage, with her family alleging that she was murdered following sustained dowry-related harassment by her husband and in-laws.
Police have begun an investigation and said every possible angle is being examined, including the allegations levelled by the woman’s family. While preliminary findings suggest she may have fallen from a building, officials said the exact circumstances behind her death are yet to be established.

The deceased has been identified as Akriti Sutar, who married Arastu Sikka on April 24. She was found dead on Saturday.
Family rejects suicide theory, cites normal behaviour before death
According to her relatives, Akriti had resumed work on Saturday after taking leave for a few days. They said she showed no signs of emotional distress during the day.
Her family said she attended office, hosted a small gathering for colleagues and later spoke to her mother around 6 pm. During the call, she reportedly mentioned the office get-together and said she was on her way home. Her relatives said she sounded cheerful and there was nothing unusual in the conversation.
Her uncle, Mananjay Sutar, said the family received a call from Akriti’s husband at around 8 pm informing them that she was missing. About 90 minutes later, police informed them that the body of a woman had been recovered from Palika Kunj in Lodhi Colony.
Family alleges dowry demands and repeated threats
Akriti’s family has accused her husband and his relatives of subjecting her to continuous harassment over dowry after the marriage.
According to them, the in-laws had allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh and repeatedly threatened and mistreated her. The family also claimed that Arastu had threatened to kill Akriti on several occasions and that the couple had a serious argument two days before her death.
Her younger brother, Amay Sutar, rejected the possibility of suicide and said Akriti was mentally strong and would not have taken such a step.
Police examining all angles
According to NDTV, Akriti worked as a sales executive with a private company in Chhatarpur and lived in Pushp Vihar. Her body was found inside a residential society in Lodhi Colony, around 10 km from her residence.
Police suspect she may have fallen from the building but have not reached a conclusion on how the incident occurred.
They added that the investigation is underway and that they are examining every angle, including the allegations raised by the family
